A brilliant club night last evening at the Green Dragon and our first 'themed' evening when we played a selection of Beatles songs from a songbook prepared by Alan H and Liz. Special thanks to them both for the hard work that went into producing the songbook - it resulted in a truly memorable evening. Alan has promised more themed evenings and has promised, Elvis and Buddy Holly to name but two. The WUG Seasonal Song Book is now available and will be rehearsed at our November club nights in anticipation of our four upcoming December gigs. ... See MoreSee Less
Kirsty Merryn & Jack Harris with support from Tilly Moses
November 11, 2017, 8:00pm - November 11, 2017, 5:00pm
WVFC are delighted to present this 'double header' featuring
Kirsty Merryn and Jack Harris, two of the UK's finest young folk
musicians. Singer-songwriter Kirsty Merryn tells stories of boxing champions, forgotten heroines and frozen winters. She has become a regular on London’s folk scene, delighting the crowds with her delicately introspective piano based songs and sophisticated musical style. She comes to us in the midst of a tour with Show of Hands.
Jack is a multi-award winning singer-songwriter and poet, most notably winning the 2005 New Folk Songwriting Competition at Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas, the first non-American to do so. Jack writes literate, compassionate songs. His new album, 'The Wide Afternoon', produced by Gerry Diver (Sam Lee, Lisa Knapp, Tom Robinson) gathers 11 new songs and sets them to a moody, expansive soundscape.
Tilly Moses provides the support, fresh from an impressive summer of performances to promote her debut album Alight & Adrift which has been released to incredible critical acclaim:
“Tilly possesses an uncanny ability to communicate her messages and narratives with total conviction and an immediacy and intellectual as well as emotional depth.” (FATEA Magazine)
“Blazingly alight and far from adrift, she’s a performer not to be missed." (Folk Radio UK)
"To listen to Moses is akin to listening to a forest fire that has been captured and tamed. Like crackling flames, her voice flickers out into the world as powerful, emotional and raw as an act of God." (Artree Magazine)
An enthralling and enchanting evening of music awaits!
Wow! Great club night last night! Lots of players - some established club members and some new players - turned up, totalling at least 30 and we still found everyone a seat, just! We mixed the session up with some new songs, rounded off the edges of some songs that we needed to practice and ended the session with some really old favourites to raise the roof a bit! Our next club night will be on October 17th and it's a Beatle Special from a specially prepared song book. All thanks to Alan and Liz for their hard work in producing this for the club. ...
